BHRT (BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY)

Bio-identical hormones contain the same chemical makeup as hormones that are produced by the human body. For a replacement hormone to replicate the function of naturally occuring hormones, the chemical structure must match the original exactly.

There are momentous differences between bio-identical (naturally produced) hormones and hormones that are not bio-identical preparations. There is reason to believe that these significant differences in the chemical make-up of synthetic hormones could be responsible for side effects that are often experienced when non-bio-identical hormones are used for hormone replacement therapy.

Examples of bio-identical hormones include:

  • Estrone (E1)
  • Estradiol (E2)
  • Estriol (E3)
  • Progesterone
  • Testosterone
  • Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)

Our compounding specialists work with patients and physicians to provide customized, bio-identical horomone replacment therapy, tailored to the individual patient's needs.

Hormone Testing

Saliva testing is employed to determine what is referred to as "free" hormone levels. Free hormone levels are those that impact feelings of well-being, differing from blood hormone level which are considered "bound" and unavailable to be freely used by the body.

compounded-medicinePALLIATIVE CARE

Palliative Care assists patients with quality of life and refers to consistent care of patients with an illness that is not responsive to curative treatment. Palliative care involves symptom management therapies for vomiting and nausea, excessive pulmonary secretions, wound care and side effects caused by radiation.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Uncontrolled pain can interfere with a patient's day-to-day functions, including work, social activities and family time. Optimal treatment often involves using medications that possess pain-relieving properties, including some anticonvulsants, anesthetics, antidepressants, antiarrhythmics and antiviral agents. Topical transdermal gels, creams or rectal dosages can be created to provide local treatment at the site of application. Using alternate administration routes can minimize side effects and provide more effective administration options when oral administration is to be avoided.

PEDIATRICS

It is common for children to resist taking medication. They often have difficulty swallowing solid dosage forms or dislike the taste. JB Compounding Pharmacy formulates oral medications into pleasantly flavored lozenges, suspensions or 'gummies', that encourage children to take the medication. Children are more likely to comply with taking medication when the formulation is palatable. This also reduces waste or spillage during administration. We can also compound many medications into transdermal gels that can easily be applied to a specific site, such as the child's ankle for absorption through the skin.

SPORTS MEDICINE

Muscle spasms and inflammation are a common issue among athletes, trainers, team physicans, physical therapists and coaches. We work with athletes and sports medicine professionals to compound customized medications to treat specific needs.

DENTISTRY

JB Compounding Pharmacy provides support and assistance to dentists and their patients with compounded medications for oral thrush (lozenges and troches), oral ulcer treatments, rinses and much more.

We work with dermatologists and their patients to prepare individualized therapies for a myriad of dermatologic problems. Treatments can be formulated into cosmetically appealing topical powders or sprays and creams.  USP approved topical bases (some including sunscreens) can be utilized to maximize the absorption of topically applied medications when necessary.

PODIATRY

Compounded medications can significantly help podiatrists and other health care professionals with a variety of foot problems.

Podiatrists and other health care professionals encounter numerous foot problems that may be helped with compounded medications. We commonly prepare customized formulations that prescribers request to meet specific needs of their patient's as well as 'tried and true' formulas not that are not available commercially.
